The Berg Ice Cream Social Featuring Bonnie Brae Ice Cream for National Ice Cream Day
Community celebration offers a first look at Westminster’s newly named food hall with Historical Tour, Lifeline Puppy Rescue Playtime, and Ice Cream Giveaway
Denver, CO (July 8, 2025) — One of Westminster’s most anticipated new destinations is getting a name — and the community is invited to help celebrate. The upcoming Shoenberg Food Hall has officially been named The Berg, a nod to the historic Shoenberg Farm property on which it stands. To mark the announcement and give locals a flavorful preview, The Berg is hosting a family-friendly Ice Cream Social in honor of National Ice Cream Day, complete with a sundae bar from Denver’s beloved Bonnie Brae Ice Cream and a puppy playtime from Lifeline Puppy Rescue.
The free event will take place on Sunday, July 20, from 12:00PM - 3:00PM on The Berg’s lawn at 5202 W 73rd Ave, Westminster, CO 80003.
The collaboration between The Berg and Bonnie Brae celebrates a shared history. In the early 20th century, Shoenberg Farm was one of the largest dairy and poultry operations west of the Mississippi, supplying dairy to Denver’s original Dolly Madison Ice Cream stores — one of which occupied the same Bonnie Brae location before transforming into the cherished ice cream shop locals know today.

“There’s something really special about bringing Bonnie Brae back to its roots with this community appreciation event,” said Matthew Lawrence, Principal of The Berg. “It’s a meaningful way to connect the past and future of this historic site. We’re inviting our neighbors to share their thoughts on the design vision—with the goal of honoring memories of the Farm while reimagining it as a vibrant community hub. We’re thrilled to welcome the Westy community back to the grounds at Shoenberg.”
In addition to the Bonnie Brae ice cream sundae bar, the event will feature an on-site historical property tour. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the rich history of this cherished community landmark and a first look at the site’s future as a food hall. Guests will learn about the landmark designation process, the preservation standards guiding current plans, and the stories that have shaped the Shoenberg property for more than a century.

Lifeline Puppy Rescue will bring several of their rescue puppies accompanied by their puppy experts for socialization around new people, which makes them even better family pets once they find their forever home. Puppy playtime is open for event attendees of all ages.
“We’re so excited to celebrate National Ice Cream Day with The Berg,” said Adrian Simon, Co-Owner of Bonnie Brae Ice Cream. “Our shop’s history is deeply connected to Denver’s dairy roots, and it’s meaningful to serve our ice cream on the grounds of a farm that helped supply some of the city’s original parlors. Events like this are what make our community so special — good people, good stories, and, of course, great ice cream.”
The event is free and open to the public, with snacks and beverages available.
RSVP HEREThe Berg is slated to open in 2026, delivering a locally curated collection of food vendors, beverage partners, community programming, live music and events to the City of Westminster.
